Suzu, Klarth, did you guys get hit with this one? Heck, just extend that to everyone I know and haven't talked to yet.

[It's at least two hours later that Arche finally drops by.]

Hey old-timer. I think I've got something you want. [She holds up a cloth bag full of books, grinning ear-to-ear at Klarth.]

[He brightens up considerably. Not just at Arche, but mostly at the cloth of books.]

Arche, excellent timing! I was just finished perusing the one book I still have.

[Yup, he actually had a book with him while he was attacked by Angel and he refused to leave it behind.]

I'm kinda surprised it took you that long. Interesting one?

[She sets the bag down not on Klarth's bed, but very close, so he can reach out and take what he likes.]

[Aww, he has to reach? The clinic is pampering him, really. He can just lay there in bed all day, reading books while people bring him food. It's ideal! They're going to have to remove him with a crowbar once he's fully recovered.]

More than interesting! This book details the term 'magic' as it's used on a world called Earth. It has absolutely nothing to do with spirits or elemental spells, instead focussing on tricking the mind. It's mostly meant for entertainment purposes, but it should definitely be worth mastering. All I need is a bit of practice and I'll be able to pull rabbits out of my hat as if it were nothing.

Rabbits... out of a hat. Are you serious, Klarth?

[She's so distracted by this absurd idea that she's temporarily not thinking of what she just found in his room while picking up his books. Temporarily.]

I assure you, I am quite serious. I could pull an endless handkerchief out of my pocket and make a Gald piece appear from behind your ear. Another interesting magic trick would be to saw someone in half, though finding the proper supplies for that might be tricky.

[He is so into this Earth magic.]

Those are all ridiculous and useless sounding. I mean I guess they'd distract kids and stuff for a while, but... wait, sawing someone in half? And... they survive, right?

Let's just say that if they don't survive, the trick wasn't performed by a very good magician.

[By which he means "performed by someone who isn't Klarth F. Lester".]

[Oh Arche, you know you shouldn't upset sick people.]

You don't trust me? I'll have you know, the theory behind this trick is no problem at all for a genius scholar such as myself! You should be honored to be involved in my first encounters with Earth-style magic! Anyone else would be jumping at the opportunity to take part in such a historic event!

Then you shouldn't lack for volunteers that aren't me, should you? Though you should warn them that you've never done this before and the only knowledge you have is from your books...

[Arche may be smirking, but Klarth's certainly not. He's trying to give her the best glare he can muster in his current flustered state.]

You're the one who sent me to your house to pick up a few books for you. It's not my fault those ones were so close to the ones you asked me to pick up.

E-even so! I asked you to gather a few books! Not flip through a stack of magazines!

[Nevermind the fact that those magazines weren't even piled neatly onto a stack, instead cluttered around the nightstand along with those books... (ahhh, bachelor pads)]

I happen to use a sophisticated, delicate system of organization. It figures that someone like you wouldn't understand it.

I... Well, I don't see why I should bother! The manner in which I organize my books is really not the point of this conversation!

Oh, I disagree. You see, if your books were organized in a manner so that those types of materials were, say, separated, I wouldn't have stumbled on them (much to my dismay, I might add) and we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.

Stumbled upon them, my foot! You probably sought them out purposely!
